Over the last 2-3 months I’ve been playing with hops data from the Beer Maverick website, where they have profiles of hundreds of hops based on aroma/flavor data. This type of data is a natural for a network graph, where we can see the relationships between hops and the aroma characteristics; hops with similar profiles will be adjacent in the graph space based on their profiles.
I decided to test out on e of the network graph options in Flourish to see how it works with a modest sized graph of just a few dozen attributes. Here’s the result:
Hop varieties are shown in green, with the 9 aroma categories in gold. Links between individual hops and aromas are displayed using gray edges; a thin edge indicates a lower presence of that characteristic while thicker lines represent a strong connection. Note that many hop varieties will not connect to specific aromas; some will link to just two or three of the nine possibilities.
Not much more to say for now – enjoy playing with the graph and seeing which hops cluster together based on their profiles. Thanks for reading, and see you soon.
